LAND OF THE BEARS
We have a small summer cottage in eastern Finland, and for a wildlife photographer, it’s a true paradise. Located near a narrow strip of no man's land along the Finnish-Russian border, it’s one of the few safe havens still remaining for wildlife. Did you know that the forests of eastern Finland are among the best places in the world to observe and photograph wild brown bears? It’s a must-visit for any wildlife enthusiast.
If you’re interested in photographing brown bears in Finland, we recommend booking a photography hide from Bear Centre in Vartius, Kuhmo. The season begins around mid-April when the first large males emerge from their winter dens, and it runs until mid October, just before the bears return to hibernation.
